# Compare ChatCache export formats: all 7 options

> Compare all seven ChatCache export formats — Markdown, HTML, TXT, PDF, JSON, CSV, and PNG — and choose the right one for your workflow.

ChatCache exports ChatGPT conversations to seven formats, each suited to a different purpose. All formats support selective message export, so you can include the full thread or only the messages that matter. Six formats are processed entirely in your browser; PDF is the only format that uses an external API.

## Format comparison

| Format | Processing | Best for | Output |
| - | - | - | - |
| Markdown | Local (browser) | Notion, Obsidian, GitHub | `.md` file |
| HTML | Local (browser) | Web viewing and sharing | `.html` file |
| TXT | Local (browser) | Plain-text archiving | `.txt` file |
| PDF | Cloud API (no data stored) | Printing and sharing | `.pdf` file |
| JSON | Local (browser) | Programmatic use | `.json` file |
| CSV | Local (browser) | Spreadsheets | `.csv` file |
| PNG | Local (browser) | Screenshots and sharing | `.png` image |

> [!NOTE]
>
> Every format supports selective message export. Enter selection mode before exporting to choose specific messages — your prompts, the AI's responses, or any combination.
